Guidance on safe use of face coverings is available here.

  • From the 16th July face coverings should be worn by all customers in shops and shopping centres across the country. Retail staff will also be required to wear a face covering unless there is a partition between them and members of the public or where there is a distance of 2 metres between them and members of the public. Regulations, with details on enforcement and penalties are in the process of being drafted.

Face coverings are required on public transport.

  • by people visiting the homes of those who are cocooning
  • by people who are being visited in their homes by those who are cocooning
  • If you wear one, you should still do the important things necessary to prevent the spread of the virus.

    These include:

Washing your hands properly and often.
Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze
Not touching your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
Social distancing (keeping at least 2 metres away from other people)

  • Everyone in Ireland has helped to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We have worked together in difficult circumstances to save many lives.
Now that our services and communities are re-opening, we all want to stay safe and keep protecting each other from coronavirus. We do this by cleaning our hands, social distancing and covering sneezes and coughs.
