Reflections


A weekly 30-minute space for Christian prayer, song and devotion. It is presented by the Kilkee Prayer Group led by Anne Haugh and Kathleen Ryan and joined in by Donnie Dillon, Anne Marie Harte and Antonio Cebas. It is an invitation to engage in Christian worship through prayer and song, as well as to reflect on the lives of the Saints whose feast day we celebrate. All listeners at home are invited to add their own prayers and petitions and together with those of the group offer them in unison to the Grace of the Lord and our Blessed Lady.

Lorna is a Professional Genealogist and Family Historian. She is a longstanding member of the Association of Professional Genealogist. Lorna is the Resident Genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare. Lorna worked as Project Genealogist for George Boole *200 genealogy project for University College Cork and is an excellent researcher for Irish family histories.

Lorna produces and presents the successful show: ‘The Genealogy Radio show’ aired each Thursday at 4p.m. from beautiful Kilkee, Co. Clare at Raidio Corcabaiscinn and Podcasts are available weekly.

Lorna has delivered conference papers at Oxford; Lincoln College: Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet: (2012); seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects. Her research areas are the MacNamaras and O’Briens of Thomond.

Lorna received her Certificate for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG) in Dallas in March 2015.

The presentation includes a narrative account of Catherine Hayes’ musical life, career and worldwide travel. Illustrated with historic images, as well as musical extracts from her repertoire of Opera and Ballads.

About the Speaker:
Cian, a Dublin man, living in Limerick for more than 50 years has a lifelong interest in the Arts. When Cian retired as CEO of Shannon Heritage, he undertook many Heritage Tourism assignments in the Middle East. He is a former Director of the Belltable Arts Centre in Limerick. Cian has written and lectured on local history and planning. Cian O’Carroll is a Director of the Limerick Civic Trust. Cian is married to Ann and has four adult children.
This Musical Evening has been devised, researched, scripted and presented by Cian O’Carroll, in aid of Kilkee Civic Trust projects.

Hickie. So large is his collection; the great dilemma for J.J. will not be what photographs to put in, but what ones to leave out! Each photograph will be accompanied by J.J.’s insightful commentary, revealing many interesting historical facts, anecdotes and, perhaps, even a few surprising revelations.

Those who know him well say the accolade of “Local Historian” is more than justified. J.J. Vacancy for Radio Station Manager


The Board of South West Clare Community Radio (Raidió Corca Baiscinn) invites applicants for the position of full time Station Manager to lead a successful team forward.
RCB is a community owned and run radio station based in Kilkee, Co Clare. We broadcast from 1 to 9 pm Monday to Friday and weekends 1 to 6pm. RCB operates on community development principles and encourages participation from all members of society.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with staff to oversee all operations of the station
Ensure the station is kept funded
Writing grant and funding applications
ensure compliance with BAI regulations
Provide monthly report to board of management
recruit and delegate staff to appropriate positions
work with programming staff to ensure funded projects are delivered.

Strategic goals:

Develop key partnerships with local and national groups to ensure full representation at volunteer level.
Diversify station income sources
Provide a vision for the development of the station
Contribute to a programming policy that is inclusive and in keeping with BAI contract.

Key skills and experience:

Knowledge and experience of radio production
proven grant writing skillls
Awareness and understanding of community development principles
management of teams

Talk Description:

This illustrated talk, will focus on the last commercial narrow-gauge railway line to operate in the country, the sometimes infamous “West Clare Railway” which served the communities of West and South Clare from 1888 until 1961. It will feature many rare photographs, diagrams and drawings. It will look at some of the people who worked on the line; those who travelled on it and also lamented its passing.

About the Speaker:

Joe Coleman has spent over 39 years in various roles working in road transport with CIE & Bus Éireann until retiring in 2017. He has a great passion for railways and published the bestselling book: “Falling Gradient”- ‘Limerick’s Railway Connections, the people and the times’ in 2016. He has given a number of lectures on the subject of local railway lines in various locations around the south west.
Joe’s other publications include: “House Full”(2014) – ‘An affectionate look back at the old cinema’s and theatres of Limerick…’ and “The Breaking Rapids” (2018) – ‘Aspects of the Treaty Riverside City and its environs…..’. All but the latter are now out of print. Joe is also a Distinguished Toastmaster and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (Ireland).
