Community Unity

On this week’s Community Unity where we discuss all things community, Brian Clohessy is in to give some practical tips for parents of those taking junior and leaving certificate examinations. Vivian Patterson from the Higher Education Authority is on to tell us about the higher and further education places available for Clare residents. Teresa Glendinning chats with Dara O Callaghan from the Shannon Crematorium and also catches up with Mags Keane to discuss the Loop Head Community Walk which takes place every Sunday and also about the e-bikes in the area.

The West Coast Rock Show is exclusively broadcast on RCB Radio, playing some of the latest and hottest new and classic rock bands. Presented and produced by Stuart Green, the show brings together old and new rock tracks and aims to give information on the rock music scene in the West of Ireland. The show is available on podcast and will rock out on Saturdays between 5 and 6pm and repeated on Tuesdays between 8 and 9pm. Message the show on Facebook

And we are joined by a live studio guest Sonny Hastings in to sing 2 songs he has written and tell us the inspiration behind the songs.

The Genealogy Show – Eighteenth Century Ireland

Lorna is a Professional Genealogist and Family Historian. She is a longstanding member of the Association of Professional Genealogist. Lorna is the Resident Genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare. Lorna worked as Project Genealogist for George Boole *200 genealogy project for University College Cork and is an excellent researcher for Irish family histories.

Lorna produces and presents the successful show: ‘The Genealogy Radio show’ aired each Thursday at 4p.m. from beautiful Kilkee, Co. Clare at Raidio Corcabaiscinn and Podcasts are available weekly.

Lorna has delivered conference papers at Oxford; Lincoln College: Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet: (2012); seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects. Her research areas are the MacNamaras and O’Briens of Thomond.

Lorna received her Certificate for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG) in Dallas in March 2015.





Radio Beams – The burning of Ruan Barracks by Lenoard McDonagh and Joe Keane.

Radio Beams show this week is with two men involved in the Ruan /Dysart historical society. They are Joe Keane and Leonard McDonagh. They tell the story of the burning of Ruan RIC Barracks in 18th of October 1920. This was executed to perfection by a very disciplined Mid Clare IRA Brigade. There were 13 RIC in the building and it was 8.30am,they had an informer inside. Tune in Tuesday 3.30pm www. rcb.ie Please share.
