In Memory of Ray Lowe

We were very saddened to hear about the loss of our dear friend and volunteer Ray Lowe who sadly passed away at the weekend. Everyone at RCB would like to offer our deepest condolences to Ray’s wife Cynthia, his daughters Jennifer, Emily, Alison and son Shane, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family and friends. He will be sadly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Radio Beams – Richard Sharp , Artist and Farmer

Radio Beams show this week is well know artist and farmer Richard Sharp lives between Quility and Ballyvaughen where the farm is. Richard was born in a Mother and Baby Home 1954 in Belfast and found out 40 later his mother was from west Cork in Richard had several exhibitions and focus on trees and landscape.
He arrive in Clare by accident at the age of 20. Tune in Tuesday 3.30pm www.rcb.ie

Community Unity

On today’s community unity where we talk all things community we are joined by Cllr Cillian Murphy a great friend of the Station here at Kilkee and we would like to thank him and Clare County Council for their continued support of us and the work that we do. Cillian is in to tell us about the events taking place in Kilkee for Christmas by the sea 2021.
Sadhbh Smyth also tells us about the treasure hunt taking place as part of the festivities. We also hear the material pulled together for the recent Craol awards and our award winning shows Tune in for the Tunes with Brian Clohessy and Let Erin Remember. Tom Nugent from the Killimer Local History Group is in the studio to chat about a virtual book launch ‘Living on the Wild Atlantic Way Through a Lens’ taking place in Killimer parish. We also hear some clips from the archives ‘Flanagan’s Shenanigans’ which are sure to entertain.

Listen in to Reflections on Sundays at 3:00pm on 92.5-94.8fm and live stream. A weekly 30-minute space for Christian prayer, song and devotion. It is presented by the Brothers of Charity Group led by Antonio Cebas and joined in by Donnie Dillon, Anne Marie Harte Orla McMahon and Kathleen Ryan It is an invitation to engage in Christian worship through prayer and song, as well as to reflect on the lives of the Saints whose feast day we celebrate.

Lorna is a Professional Genealogist and Family Historian. She is a longstanding member of the Association of Professional Genealogist. Lorna is the Resident Genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare. Lorna worked as Project Genealogist for George Boole *200 genealogy project for University College Cork and is an excellent researcher for Irish family histories.

Lorna produces and presents the successful show: ‘The Genealogy Radio show’ aired each Thursday at 4p.m. from beautiful Kilkee, Co. Clare at Raidio Corcabaiscinn and Podcasts are available weekly.

Lorna has delivered conference papers at Oxford; Lincoln College: Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet: (2012); seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects. Her research areas are the MacNamaras and O’Briens of Thomond.

Lorna received her Certificate for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG) in Dallas in March 2015.

On Community Unity today where we discuss all things community, our first live guest Ann Marie Flanagan from Clare Leader Forum is in the studio to talk about the Empower on line celebratory and solidarity concert marking International Day of disabled people with the theme ‘Fighting for the rights in a post covid era’. Ann Marie talks about the disabled younger people who continue to be deprived of their liberty in nursing homes across our nation. Ann Marie also talks about the work of Clare Leader Forum and advocates for societal change to ensure the contributions of disabled persons are recognised and facilitated to reach their full potential. Also today we hear from Alan Finn about a concert coming up on 3 December in Teach Cheoil Kilrush. Nuala Shannahan from Doonbeg Community Development tells us about a commemoration to mark the 80th anniversary of the RAF Sunderland Plane Crash taking place on 5th December on Doughmore Beach. Our next live guest is Denis Hynes, FAI County Development Officer telling us about the Beat the Streets 5 a side soccer tournament finals in Kilrush astro turf, taking place on Friday evening for young people.

Radio Beams – Tom Nestor is 88yrs

Radio Beams this weeks show is with 88 yrs old Tom Nestor born in Cahaska Maurices Mill. Worked most of his life driving for the Clare County Council and on Saturday with Jack Daly driving in Ennis. He was married for 50 yrs before his late wife passed away. Tom and his wife loved to dance and visited many halls and marquees in Clare and beyond. Tom now lives in Ennis. This week’s show celebrates the forthcoming Feast Day of St. Andrew Apostle, looking at his prominent position as cornerstone of the Orthodox Christian Church and founder of the See of Byzantium. Also we will look at his status as patron saint of Scotland and the legend linked with the arrival of his relics in the 6th century. There will also be music associated with his feast day plus the regular contributions by Kathleen Ryan and Anne Marie Harte.
