On today’s Community Unity we hear about the work of the Bedford Row Family Project from Patrick Talty. We have recordings throughout the show of our RCB out and about event held in O’Mara’s bar in Kilkee on Sunday 26th June to promote the station as a social enterprise. Mairead chats with Suzanne Rogers about the invaluable work of Social Justice Ireland. Teresa attended the summer solstice event at the labyrinth in Querrin, and Emma Buckley from Gourmet Fuel talks tips on leading a healthy and nutritious lifestyle.

Lorna is a Professional Genealogist and Family Historian. She is a longstanding member of the Association of Professional Genealogist. Lorna is the Resident Genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare. Lorna worked as Project Genealogist for George Boole *200 genealogy project for University College Cork and is an excellent researcher for Irish family histories.

Lorna produces and presents the successful show: ‘The Genealogy Radio show’ aired each Thursday at 4p.m. from beautiful Kilkee, Co. Clare at Raidio Corcabaiscinn and Podcasts are available weekly.

Lorna has delivered conference papers at Oxford; Lincoln College: Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet: (2012); seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects. Her research areas are the MacNamaras and O’Briens of Thomond.

Lorna received her Certificate for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG) in Dallas in March 2015.





Community Unity

On this week’s Community Unity where we discuss all things community, we hear from Teresa Glendinning who attended and spoke with many people on the Loop Head Nature weekend held on 18 and 19 June. We also hear from Clare County Council and their consultant on the draft report they have launched following on from the Kilkee Walkability Audit undertaken in October 2021 and the next steps for the report. Teresa also speaks with the sculptor Seamus Connolly.

Radio Beams – Peter Marshell is Homeless in His Home Town

Radio Beams show this week on Www.rcb.ie at 3.30pm on Tuesday is with Peter Marshall born in Ennis in 1956 and travelled to a number of countries in the EU and then travelled to USA in 1979. Hi s trade was a painter,but he busked a lot and travelled around ending up un Oregon .
When he came home after a few years of bad health’s he could not find accommodation and ended up in 2 homelessness hostel. He found them tough to live in .Now his is sleeping on the streets on Ennis.

Teresa is also with Kim Thittachai to hear about her recent art workshop for children and her exhibition currently at Culterlann Sweeney. We hear what community events are coming up in the area and from Oisin McKeogh about the Faces of Clare documentary. Teresa is with Phillip Walker and Lucy Fennelly from the Kilkee Aqua Club with Phillip telling us about the snorkeling activity taking place as part of the Wild Loop Head weekend (18 – 19 June) and Lucy telling us about her experiences with the aqua club. We also hear from Fiona O’Malley from Turn2Me about a free mental health support group for exam stress and practical tips on how to avoid exam stress.

Radio Beams – The burning of Ruan Barracks by Lenoard McDonagh and Joe Keane.

Radio Beams show this week is with two men involved in the Ruan /Dysart historical society. They are Joe Keane and Leonard McDonagh. They tell the story of the burning of Ruan RIC Barracks in 18th of October 1920. This was executed to perfection by a very disciplined Mid Clare IRA Brigade. There were 13 RIC in the building and it was 8.30am,they had an informer inside. Tune in Tuesday 3.30pm www. rcb.ie Please share.
