The Genealogy Show – O’ Connors of Kerry and Others

Lorna is a Professional Genealogist and Family Historian. She is a longstanding member of the Association of Professional Genealogist. Lorna is the Resident Genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare. Lorna worked as Project Genealogist for George Boole *200 genealogy project for University College Cork and is an excellent researcher for Irish family histories.

Lorna produces and presents the successful show: ‘The Genealogy Radio show’ aired each Thursday at 4p.m. from beautiful Kilkee, Co. Clare at Raidio Corcabaiscinn and Podcasts are available weekly.

Lorna has delivered conference papers at Oxford; Lincoln College: Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet: (2012); seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects. Her research areas are the MacNamaras and O’Briens of Thomond.

Lorna received her Certificate for the Advancement of Forensic Genealogy (CAFG) in Dallas in March 2015.

ALittle Bit of Gardening – Knot Gardens!

When we were looking back at the History of gardening, it brought to mind the image of the Knot Garden. These gardens have always fascinated me, due to some of the exquisite designs and layouts. The time, patience and effort put into creating and maintaining these gardens can only be admired… So that is what I thought we could look at today, the Knot Garden……

Radio Beams – Eileen Lahiffe 60 yrs in amature drama in Corofin, supported by husband Willie.

Radio Beams show Tuesday 27th of August is with well know Eileen Lahiffe. Amature Drama in Corofin. Supported by her husband Willie. It was Haulie Lahiffe who Directed her in the early years.
Eileen spend 60 years on the stage and played major parts in plays like Big Maggie and The Field by John B Keane. Eileen Directed a play her self named ” Who for Pudding.” She got best Director.
Corofin travelled to many many drama competitions around Ireland. Eileen won over 18 awards and more for various aspects of Drama.
Lots of great friendships were made over the years up and down Ireland.

A Packed show today covering some of the Heritage Week events happening around the county, we start off close to home, marking the 170th Anniversary (Full itinerary below) of The Loop Head Lighthouse , Sharon Malone speaks to Teresa about the celebrations upcoming for this Sunday 25th Aug. from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm.
Padraig speaks to beachcomber and author Linda Hebenstrait about the Beaches of County Clare and her new book. Linda will be hosting Banner Tea Times on 25th 2-3pm Banner Books Ennistymon.
John Heddon is on the line to speak about the Ennistymon Book Town Festival where pop up shops around the town are to be filled with books from booksellers far and wide over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 31st August and 1st September.

Carmel Shaw, head tour guide at the Ennis Friary who are offering free tour of the Friary during Heritage Week, and have also developed a touring route of 7 friaries and monastaries around the west, through Galway, Clare and Kerry. Radio Beams show this week is with well known Richard Andreucetti .Artistic based outside Kildysart.
Member of a number Proffesional Association.
While he had qualified as a Stainlesteel engineer. His focus turned to art with metal work and silver.His work is abstract.
His art has sold abroad in a number of countries.

Kilkee Civic Trust Summer Talks: Fionnuala Walsh – Cappa to California.

September 2013 Fionnuala was the first Irish Female to swim the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to San Pedro on the Californian mainland, see (below) (video here (8 Minutes).)  


Together with Ned Denison and Liz Fry both International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) they completed the first ever group marathon: anti-clockwise around Anacapa Island (Santa Barbara, California 18km) in November 2016 see (below)video here (22 Mintues).

A Little Bit of Gardening – August Jobs

With August now upon us, you will probably start to notice the summer flowering plants are starting to age, with their leaves becoming yellow or fading… Our tall plants may be beginning to bend, while clump forming perennials may start growing leggy. There are a few simple maintenance jobs that we can do to keep things going, so that is what we are looking at today, the Jobs for the month of August.
