Radio Beams guest this week is Tommy Ryan who sings for his neighbours in Gallows Hill. Tommy and his son John perform on a weekly basis during Lock down. Tommy talks about his singing in Day Care Centers and Nursing homes in Clare and how he missed been there.
Tommy has a collection of over 1,500 songs on his computer ready to play.

Walking is a popular pastime . Here in Clare there are a number of walking clubs.
Radio Beams speaks to Concepta and Joe Lillis, founders of West Clare Walking Club. Along with Mary Clarke who is active member on Ballyvaighen Walking Cllub.
While they have walked in many beauty spots in Clare they also have walked up many well know peaks in Ireland.

Alan Coote of Ballyalla Lake Kayaking is talking about how to use a Kayak. How he set up the company and how he tried a number of ways of working. Summer naturally is a busy time and in around Ennis.
Ben’s Surf Clinic is going for a good number of years. With 5 Surf Schools in Lahinch, there are lots of choices for customers. Any age can and do take part. It is good for the mind and body.

Radio Beams guest this week is front line staff nurse Martha Casey who works in UL hospital Limerick. (Martha is from Ennis.)
Martha started nursing in 1975 in the UK as an 18 year old.
Came home and raised her family of 6.
Then went back nursing in Limerick. Since the end of March Martha has worked in the Covid ward in Limerick.

Radio Beams – Meals On Wheels

Radio Beams – Meals on Wheels in Clare.
We have Hanna O Brian from Clare Care who tells of how they adapted their services during Covid19. By now delivering over 60 meals in and around Ennis.
Obair New Market on Fergus have examined there offering of meals and wheels and have expanded it to cover their immediate area and now cover parts of Ennis and East Clare. Giving out over 150 meals at day. Emer Murphy coordinator tells us all about it.

Then we have on recently set up in Ennis Meals on Wheels, spearheaded by Tina Whelan and Fr Ger Fitzgerald with Chef Frank Landy who do 50 free meals at day, while others charge a minimum of €6.

Also doing great work in the Shannon Food Bank run by Karen Cassidy and others, where they have dried food they give out and they are linked in to Food Cloud.

We also note others in Doolin Hotel like wise are giving out free dinners for the Covid19 period to support the more elderly population as well as Kilmaley Day Care Center.

Overall, there are up to 2000 meals a week given out to the more vulnerable people in Clare.

Radio Beams this week is about Sports with Rory Hickey, GAA, Ennis Track Club and Denis Hynes, FAI. Rory is a former GAA ref at national level and life time member of Eire Og Club in Ennis. He talks about the effect of Covid 19 on players and clubs. Plus all the competitions that would be played this year.

Ennis Track Club talks again about all the local, national and international competitions not happening. Athletes can train on their own and do a lot of strengthening at home. Non the less they miss the friendship and getting out meeting others.

Clare FAI

Denis Hynes says this affects thousands of members in Clare. From under age there are about 4,000 children and then there adults, around 2,000. It’s a lot of people and many many find it hard to get back to fitness. Plus the club who at the best of times run on shoe strings. Then all those local and national competitions.

Radio Beams – Alan Flynn and Peter Moylan Talks about Buisness in Covid 19

Radio Beams this week get to speak to two very well known people in Ennis. Alan Flynne recently elected President of Commerce and Peter Moylan, one of the oldest businesses in Ennis, about their feelings on approach to Covid 19.

President stated that it will take a lot of community and business working together to rebuild business back in to Ennis and the county again..
While Peter looks at how the online retail is going and would it work for their business.
