Shoreman Takes Stage 3 Win in Thrilling Sprint to Miltown Malbay

Tim Shoreman of Cabtech-Wheelbase-Castelli claimed his second stage victory at this year’s Rás Tailteann, powering through a reduced bunch sprint after 163.8km of grueling racing from Cong, Co Mayo to the West Clare town of Miltown Malbay.

After early rain and relentless terrain broke up the race, Shoreman held off Matteo Cigala (Dan Morrissey-Pissei) and Sebastian Brenes (Canel’s-Java), with former stage winner Matt Teggart (Banbridge CC) and Charles Page (Foran CT) rounding out the top five.

A major breakaway early on featured big names like Daire Feeley, Dean Harvey, and Shoreman himself, but it was whittled down on the brutal Corkscrew Hill climb. Harvey led solo for a stretch despite a crash, but was eventually reeled in.

With about 15km to go, George Peden (PB Performance) launched a solo attack that briefly put him in the virtual yellow jersey, but the move was neutralized by a chase from overall leader Odhrán Doogan (Cycling Ulster) and Team Ireland.

That set the stage for a high-speed finish into Miltown Malbay, where Shoreman surged to another win after also claiming the opening stage earlier in the week.

Adrian O’ Connor from RCB was on the ground in Miltown Malbay to catch all the post-race reaction. Be sure to tune in to Monday’s RCB Sports Show for exclusive coverage and an interview with the “Voice of the Rás,” Cian Lynch.
